The appearance of the Laundry Lady is one of the strangest ghost stories in St. Augustine.
She only appears at night after the city has quieted down. She is seen in colonial dress and never looks up from her work. She has been reported to appear out of thin air and begin to hang wet laundry from the lower branches of a big tree. People who have seen her often mistake her as a reenactor, which is strange in itself considering she is only spotted after midnight.
Many have tried to approach her and talk to her, but they say she simply vanishes … sometimes leaving a few lingering soap bubbles behind.
